German Violin

The German violin has a long history, but it became internationally renowned in the nineteenth century as Alpine communities took advantage of superior tonewood and globalization to ship instruments all over the world. Markneukirchen violins became particularly popular in the United States, and Mittenwald violins formed the basis for Bavaria’s State Vocational School for Instrument Making. Dolce Violins carries a wide selection of antique violins from legendary workshops like Ernst Heinrich Roth, Kurt Gutter, Hermann Geipel, Oskar Meinel and Neuner and Hornsteiner.

Markneukirchen violins are some of the most renowned violins ever made. The Markneukirchen region in Germany, sometimes referred to as Musikwinkel or Music Corner, is known around the world for the exceptional musical instruments that have been produced there for centuries. Throughout history, there have been many fine violin makers in the region. Dolce Fine Violins carries a wide selection of antique violins from some of the most legendary Markneukirchen workshops like Ernst Heinrich Roth and Neuner & Hornsteiner.

In 1677, the Violin Makers’ Guild was founded by Markneukirchen luthiers. By the 19th century, it is estimated that approximately 18,000 violins were being produced in the area every year. Markneukirchen violins became very popular in the United States in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Most American amateur and student violin students were playing instruments that originated in Markneukirchen and accounted for a third of the Markneukirchen luthier’s business.

Today, Dolce Fine Violins carries a beautiful selection of these classic antique instruments. Over the centuries, the area was challenged by war and politics, but the many talented luthiers continued to produce incredible Markneukirchen violins.

Dolce Fine Violins stocks a wide selection of German violins including Markneukirchen violins at a number of different price points.
