Dolce Violins

Ernst Heinrich Roth Violin – Bubenreuth 1960

SOLD

Full Description

This violin from the Roth workshop located in Bubenreuth-Erlangen Germany was made in 1960, yet the antique style varnish and the quality of the woodworking harkens back to the Roth violins from their Markneukirchen workshop, before they were forced to abandon their factory after world war two when Soviet policies forced the firm to flee to a new location Bubenreuth.

The wood selection used for this violin is superb. Highly flamed maple back and sides and a lovely spruce top are highlighted by the tastefully antique reddish brown varnish over a golden ground. The finely carved scroll, and carefully carefully inlaid purfling complete with very nice Cremonese style bee stings at the corners show an attention to detail that the Roth firm insisted on.

The Roth firm took German violin making to great heights in the early 20th century as they produced an enormous quantity of consistently high quality reproductions of classical cremonese violins. The firm garnered the trust of musicians and dealers alike as they provided clear labeling and had a serial number system that stood in contrast to the unscrupulous labeling practices rampant in the 19th century, and early 20th century.

In this 1960 Roth violin you will have a high quality instrument with a very recommendable sound but at a lower cost than some of the Roth violins from the 1920’s.
