Robert W. McCluskie has been crafting violins and violas in Montgomery County, MD since 1985. He received formal training from master violin maker Raymond Melanson at the North Bennett Street School in Boston, MA.  To date, he has made over 350 instruments, many of which are played by professional musicians.

McCluskie creates instruments one at a time based on customer specifications, and/or by using patterns he has evolved over time. He creates only ten to fifteen instruments per year, carefully choosing wood from select American and European suppliers for tone and aesthetics
