Full Description

Louis Gord’s artistic family encouraged his love of music from an early age. After studying viola at the Regional Conservatory of Angers France, he went on to play in numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles. However, Gord’s passion for his instrument eventually led him to a new field of study: lutherie. Gord graduated from the International Violin Making School of Mirecourt and continued his instruction in antique instrument restoration under Jérôme Doucet and Vatelot-Rampal.

As his career continued, Gord shifted his focus to modern instruments. He studied under multiple luthiers, including Marcus Klimke, Antoine Cauche, and Patrick Robin, before journeying to Québec to work with Isabelle Wilbaux. Gord and Wilbaux’s collaboration was recognized with certificates in workmanship and tone by the Violin Society of America in 2014.

Now a master luthier, Gord runs his own workshop where he creates instruments of the violin family. In 2018, one of Gord’s violas won a Certificate of Merit for Workmanship at the Violin Society of America Competition. This violin was patterned after Stradivarius’ 1709″Vioti”. It has a warm core with brighter overtones, very clear, good projection.
