Full Description
This German cello, dating from approximately 1915, is built on a Stainer model pattern, reflecting the continued influence of Jacob Stainer’s design in early 20th-century German workshops.
The instrument features a carved spruce top and a two-piece maple back with pronounced horizontal flame. The ribs and scroll are of similarly flamed maple. It is finished in a warm amber-brown varnish over a golden ground, showing natural patina consistent with age.
Characteristic elements of the Stainer model include a fuller arching profile and elegant outline, both visible in this example. The scroll is boldly carved, and the purfling and edgework reflect traditional German construction of the periodThe instrument shows expected signs of age and use consistent with an antique German cello from the early 1900s. Structurally sound and professionally adjusted.
