Full Description

Luthier Erich Schweiger combines modern innovation with centuries-old craftsmanship. A violinist himself, Schweiger began studying under Dr. Shinichi Suzuki at the tender age of four, and he understands not only what makes an instrument beautiful but what makes it playable.

As a teenager, Schweiger began his violin-making training with restorer William S. Pinches. He went on to study under Hans Nebel and Arnold Bone at the University of New Hampshire Violin and Bow Institute before continuing his education at the Violin Making School of America with Peter Paul Prier and Jeffrey Robinson. Schweiger’s studies reflect the artistry of the Baroque Cremonese masters. As a luthier with Michael Becker Fine Violins, Ltd., Schweiger further honed his violin making and restoration skills in a practical setting while continuing to study extant instruments by Stradivari, Guarneri, and Guadagnini.

Schweiger established his own violin shop, Schweiger Violins, in Seattle in 1985. He has since moved his business to beautiful and peaceful Camano Island, where he crafts award-winning instruments on the aptly named street, Old Cremona Way.
