Marie Louis Piernot Silver Mounted Cello Bow
Full Description
Marie‑Louis Piernot (1880–1959) was a distinguished French archetier (bow‑maker), born in Neufchâteau (Vosges), near the renowned Mirecourt center. Apprenticed under Charles‑Nicolas Bazin from 1892 until about 1900, he later honed his craft in Paris, working for prominent makers like Joseph Arthur Vigneron and Léon Bernardel .
Piernot’s bows are crafted from high-quality pernambuco wood mounted with ebony frogs, often adorned with mother-of-pearl eyes, and accented by silver or nickel-silver fittings. They strike a balance between robustness and elegance, offering warm, powerful projection while remaining nimble and well-balanced—a sound described as “large, clear, powerful” and “radiant”.
