Full Description

At 85 grams, this sturdy bow has enough heft to pull a great sound while retaining a comfortable balance. It handles well and has a very quick response for easy spiccato and sautillé.

André Chardon was born into a Parisian luthier dynasty that included his great-grandfather, Georges Chanot II, and grandfather, Joseph Marie Chardon. Chardon studied violin-making under his father, Georges Chardon, before finding a passion for bow-making in his twenties. He took over the family business, Chanot-Chardon, in 1949, and earned a reputation for excellent violin repair and financial acumen.

Because management of the Chanot-Chardon firm took up so much of his time, Chardon’s bow output is relatively small but of a very high quality. He made the most of his grandfather’s collection of fine Pernambuco wood to craft strong yet flexible bows. Chardon’s bows are largely based on the Peccatte model, with a few modeled after Tourte and Loupot.
