Dolce Violins

Full Description

A beautiful and fine example of Graganani’s smaller pattern violin. Although smaller in stature this violin speaks with a pure and authoritative voice that one would expect from an 18th century Italian violin. We do not know if the violin was commissioned by a violinist with smaller hands, but the proportions fit into what today could be considered a ⅞ size violin.

Antonio Gragnani (c.1740–c.1794) was an Italian violin maker from Livorno, Tuscany.
His instruments often follow the Stradivari model but feature distinctive personal touches, including elegant scrolls and fine craftsmanship.
Though likely trained in Florence, Gragnani developed a unique Livornese style.
He branded his instruments with “A.G.” and occasionally used unusual materials like whalebone purfling.
Today, his violins are prized for their refined tone and individuality within the Tuscan school.
