An amazing sounding cello picked for it’s fantastic sound by Moses at the 2022 Violin Society of America competition in Anaheim CA.
Born in Springfield, Missouri, Daniel Arlig moved to Minnesota at the age of eight and began to play the violin in his school orchestra. After high school, he focused on his study of the double bass at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. In 2000, Arlig graduated with honors in String Instrument Repair from Minnesota State College – SE Technical in Red Wing, Minnesota. In 2002, he graduated with a degree in Violin Making and Restoration from the North Bennet Street School in Boston. After graduation, Arlig returned to Minnesota and apprenticed with John R. Waddle of St. Paul, Minnesota.
Arlig’s instruments are rooted in the works of the 16th-to-18th century masters from the towns of Cremona and Brescia in Northern Italy. His violins are based on the instruments of Giuseppe Guarneri ‘del Gesu’ and Antonio Stradivari. His violas are inspired by Antonius and Heironimus Amati and Brescian masters, Gasparo da Salo and Giovanni Paolo Maggini. His cellos reflect significant Stradivari, Rogeri and Guarneri influences. Arlig is a member of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers.
