Full Description
A fine contemporary violin from David Yorgason of Albuquerque. This violin is modeled after a violin of the late period of Giuseppe “del Gesù” Guarneri.
David Yorgason began his journey as a violin maker when he attended the Paul Hart Violin Making School in Mt. Pleasant, UT, where he trained in violin making and restoration. After graduation in 2007, he spent the next four years restoring violins, violas, cellos and basses for Robertson and Sons Violin Shop in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Since then, David has served as the restoration foreman for David Brewer Fine Violins.
Yorgason was awarded a certificate of merit for workmanship in 2009 (Pennsylvania) and 2011 (San Francisco) in the International Society of Basses competition. He is a member of the Violin Society of America and has trained in restoration with Paul Becker of Carl Becker and Son.
According to Yorgason, “When I build a violin, each detail is important. The process begins with an instrument from antiquity that inspires me. As I have worked closely with Cremonese instruments, my motivation changes, it pushes my boundaries of beauty, and creates a memory of how a great instrument should sound. The sound and playability are the most important qualities of my instruments. I’m a violinist and personally break in and adjust each instrument that I make. I have spent hundreds of hours with amazing musicians finding the perfect balance for their violins. Many years of adjusting fine violins as a restorer has made me more aware of what great musicians need.”
