Bethke’s 2019 cello was inspired by Antonio Stradivari’s “Davidov” cello of 1712. Bethke’s precise woodworking is on display on this beautifully made cello. The elegantly shaped scroll is accentuated with the blackening of the chamfers, the corners are very precisely shaped and the purfling inlaid expertly. The varnish is tastefully antiqued at the places of usual wear.

With over two decades of experience, Frederik Bethke has established himself as a well-respected American craftsman. He began his career working for Carl Becker and Son before opening his own workshop in Minneapolis. 

Bethke creates high-quality violins, violas, and cellos, and he is also a reparation and restoration specialist. In 2018, one of his cellos received a certificate of merit for workmanship from the Violin Society of America.
