Full Description
Born in Mirecourt, luthier George Mougenot (1843-1937) received his training under George Deroux and Hilaire Darche. In 1875, Mougenot moved to Belgium to take over Nicolas Vuillaume’s Brussels workshop. There, he established a reputation for meticulous craftsmanship and excellent tonewood selection, and he provided a training ground for his cousin, Léon, who would go on to become a respected luthier in his own right. Mougenot’s instruments won gold medals at competitions in Paris, Amsterdam, and Antwerp, and they remain highly sought after by players and collectors alike.
