Dolce Violins

Full Description

Giuseppe Castagnino was an Italian luthier recognized for his distinctive craftsmanship and significant contributions to the Genoese school of violin making in the early to mid-20th century. Born in Chiavari in 1883, he was introduced to woodworking through his father, a carpenter and cooper who also crafted musical instruments as a hobby. This early exposure laid the foundation for his passion and skill in violin making.

Although largely self-taught, Castagnino briefly worked with the renowned luthier Giuseppe Fiorini in Munich in 1913. This experience influenced his approach to violin making, helping him refine his techniques while maintaining a highly personal style. After his time in Munich, he returned to Chiavari and established himself as an independent maker. Over the years, he gained recognition through competitions, earning medals at exhibitions in Milan, Turin, and Venice. Read more…
