Full Description

Horst Schicker (b. 1944, Bohemia) is a German master bow maker celebrated for his outstanding craftsmanship and for the superior playing qualities of his bows.. He apprenticed under Emil Kuhnel in Bubenreuth, Germany, from 1958 to 1961 and continued working there after completing his training. In 1971, he established his own workshop in Tennenlohe, later relocating to Baiersdorf in 1977.

Schicker’s bows are highly sought after for their quality, ranging across at least 15 models, with higher numbers denoting superior craftsmanship. Notable features include Parisian eyes, sterling silver mounts, and pernambuco sticks. His bass and violin bows are particularly prized by advancing players and professionals for their balance and tonal qualities.

His daughter, Michaela Schicker-Volkmann, joined the workshop in 1987 and now manages the business. Schicker’s work remains celebrated in the string community.
