Full Description

The Eastman Model 501 “Jean-Pierre Lupot” cello is part of Eastman’s step-up line of hand-made instruments modeled after classical European designs.

Each instrument is made using traditional construction methods with hand-graduated spruce and maple. The top is carved from solid spruce, while the back, ribs, and scroll are made from flamed maple. A hand-applied spirit varnish gives the cello a warm, classical appearance while allowing the natural character of the wood to remain visible.

The Model 501 is designed for advancing students and dedicated amateur players seeking an instrument with greater responsiveness and tonal complexity than entry-level cellos. Its design emphasizes clarity of articulation, even response across the strings, and the projection needed for ensemble and orchestral playing.
