John Harrison Cello – 2000
A smaller cello with a back length of 743mm based on a reduction of the Stradivari “Servais” cello.
Full Description
Beautiful cello made by California luthier John Harrison. This cello made in the year 2000 was built on a pattern inspired by the Stradivari “Servais” cello, Harrison took the outline and the arching ideas from the “Servais” Strad and reduced the size to make a more comfortable playing cello. The instrument is in excellent condition having been owned by one person who purchased the cello from Harrison.
Like all of Harrison’s work he uses excellent quality tonewoods, this Bosnian maple and European alpine spruce were used on this cello. Harrison’s steady hand is evident with a beautifully carved elegant scroll, and very fine f holes. Harrison uses classical cremonese oil varnish with natural pigments.
