A viola with great focus and depth of tone by Seattle viola maker William Balmforth built with proportions in mind for optimal player comfort.

The son of two master violin makers, William Balmforth was surrounded by music from a young age. He grew up watching his parents, Alan and Sarah Balmforth, build and restore violins in their Seattle workshop. At the age of ten, William started studying cello with Kristi Bjarnason, and after earning his bachelor’s degree, he joined the family workshop in 2017. William’s instruments are marked by a rich, warm tone, and he utilizes both Cremonese and contemporary models to achieve a powerful yet comfortable playing experience.
