Marinos Glitsos – Violin Maker

Content overview:

Second generation immigrant Marinos Glitsos showed a passion for music at an early age.  He began studying cello, and under the influence of his father, a master carpenter, Glitsos developed an appreciation for the instrument’s construction. Glitsos earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of Wisconsin-Superior before going on to apprentice with luthier Daniel Larson. Glitsos honed his craftsmanship under Larson’s tutelage for two years, and he was accepted to study at the Violin Making School of America under Sanghoon Lee.

Glitsos graduated in 2016 and accepted a position in John Waddle’s Saint Paul atelier. There, Glitsos had the opportunity to work with both historical and modern violins. He has also collaborated with radiologist Steve Sirr, who is using CT scans to analyze instruments by the Cremonese masters. Glitsos opened his own workshop in Saint Paul in 2018, where he produces high-quality stringed instruments.
