Ernst Heinrich Roth (1877–1948) was a German master luthier and head of a prolific workshop in Markneukirchen. He founded his own firm in 1902 after extensive travels to refine his craft. Roth’s instruments were meticulously modeled after Stradivari, Guarneri, and Amati patterns and identified by a rigorous system of labels, brands, and serial numbers—ensuring authenticity at every level of production. His workshop produced instruments across several quality tiers, from fine student instruments to elite master violins. Following his death, the firm continued under his family in Bubenreuth, preserving the Roth tradition of precision and tonal excellence.
