Mario Capicchioni Violin Maker (1926–2022)

Content overview:

Mario Capicchioni was an Italian luthier known for continuing the violin-making tradition established by his father, Marino Capicchioni. Born in 1926 in San Marino, he grew up surrounded by the craft and began working alongside his father in their Rimini workshop in the 1940s. Under Marino’s guidance, he developed a deep understanding of the art, helping create instruments that gained recognition for their quality and sound.

After his father’s passing in 1977, Mario carried on the family legacy, maintaining the same level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. His violins, violas, and cellos were known for their tonal richness and precision, making them popular among musicians and collectors. He stayed true to the traditional methods passed down to him while refining his own approach over the years.

He passed away in 2022 at the age of 95. Today, his instruments remain highly valued, carrying forward his legacy in the hands of musicians around the world.
