Full Description
Francis Beaulieu cello made in Montreal in 2021, modeled after instruments by Francesco Ruggeri of Cremona. The cello features a one-piece back of maple with broad, irregular figure, and ribs of matching material. The table is of spruce with a fine, even grain. The varnish is of a warm orange-brown color over a golden ground.
The instrument is set up in Baroque configuration, including Baroque neck and fingerboard, Baroque-style bridge, tailpiece, and fittings. The scroll is carved with a classical profile. The overall condition is excellent.
Since 2007, Francis Beaulieu has worked in Montreal, focusing on the making of viola da gambas and other Baroque bowed instruments. He has made over 100 instruments and has established a reputation among both students and professional players.
